Welcome to the blog! Home to all things sewing, DIY, design and travel around the sunny state of Florida.
I spotted this vintage sheet almost immediately after walking into Salvation Army! The bright yellow florals just scream summer 🌼 My first thought was to make a dress but then I remembered the maxi skirt (View B) from Simplicity 8606 and how much I love wearing a navy polka dot style that’s very similar. I do have a bit of fabric leftover, so I might have to make a matching top in the future!
A few things to note about this pattern. Hemming the skirt flounce is not for the faint of heart. It took a very long time to complete, but I’m glad I didn’t rush through it. If you aren’t in the mood to add a button hole to the waist band (I wasn’t!) you can skip that step and the wrap still functions perfectly well.
PATTERN: Simplicity 8606, View B – you can buy it here.
FABRIC: 100% Cotton (from a thrifted vintage sheet!)
MODIFICATIONS: I added a lining to the skirt section but left the flounce as-is. My fabric was a little bit sheer, so adding a lining gave me some peace of mind. Other than that, no other modifications!
SKIRT: Made By Me!
TOP: Old Navy (thrifted, similar here)
SANDALS: Madewell (old, similar here)
EARRINGS: Madewell (old, similar here)
Make sure to check out my other thrift flips here or maybe some sewing projects here too!
