Welcome to the blog! Home to all things sewing, DIY, design and travel around the sunny state of Florida.
Ya’ll, I found my new favorite summer top and I already have plans to make a few more. That’s when you know you’ve found a good one 😉 Honestly McCalls 7812 has it all. Flattering deep v-neck? Check. Cropped silhouette? Check. Cute and on-trend sleeve detail? Check and check. It looks adorable with skirts, pants, and cut off denim shorts.
On top of that, it only cost me a whopping $3! Instead of buying the fabric, I used a dress/mumu that I snagged from the thrift store. The yellow gingham caught my eye and I was sold once I realized it was made of cotton jersey. Reduce, reuse and recycle, right? I’ve included one *very flattering* before photo at the end just so you can see how far this top has come.
PATTERN: McCalls 7812, View B – you can buy it here.
FABRIC: 100% Cotton Jersey – thrifted and cut from a dress.
MODIFICATIONS: Surprisingly, none! This was a very quick and easy sew. The only thing that I would change is sewing a tie made out of the same material rather than a grosgrain ribbon. I just didn’t have enough fabric left after cutting out the other pattern pieces to make it work this time around.
TOP: Made By Me!
SKIRT: Old Navy Denim Skirt
SANDALS:Â Target A New Day Sandals
I hope you’re inspired to browse the thrift store for your next sewing project! P.S. Make sure to check out my other thrift flips here or maybe some sewing projects here too.
